কোভিড-যুদ্ধে মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়াতে যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তনীরা গত ২৩শে মে থেকে কলকাতার হরিদেবপুরে জজবাগান রিক্রিয়েশন ইউনিটের সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে একটি ইন্টেরিম কোভিড কেয়ার সেন্টারের কাজ শুরু করেছে। ৫ শয্যা বিশিষ্ট এই কেন্দ্রটিতে গত প্রায় ২০ দিন ধরে ইতিমধ্যেই পরিষেবা পেয়েছেন ৬০ জনেরও বেশী মানুষ। এই উদ্যোগে রিক্রিয়েশন ইউনিট এবং ‘জেইউ-এক্স’ ছাড়াও, তাদেরকে সহযোগিতার হাত বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে আরও বেশ কিছু সংগঠন। ‘অন্যস্বর’, ‘একসাথে বাঁচবো’ এবং সর্বোপরি প্রথম লকডাউনের সময় থেকেই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চত্বরে শ্রমজীবী মানুষের জন্য রোজকার ক্যান্টিন চালিয়ে আসা অন্যতম সংগঠন ‘জেইউ কমিউন’, এমন চারটি সংগঠন শুরু থেকেই ‘জেইউ-এক্স’এর এই উদ্যোগের সঙ্গে ওতঃপ্রোত ভাবে জড়িয়ে রয়েছে।কেবল কোভিড কেয়ার ইউনিটই নয়, এই উদ্যোগের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ‘জেইউ-এক্স’ এবং আরও সহযোগী সংগঠনগুলি ইতিমধ্যেই একটি এ্যাম্বুলেন্সের মাধ্যমে ২৪ ঘন্টার অক্সিজেন অন হুইলস পরিষেবাও চালু করেছে। এছাড়াও কোভিডের ঢেউ খানিকটা স্তিমিত হয়ে এলেও দীর্ঘমেয়াদে এলাকাবাসীর নিরাপত্তা সুনিশ্চিত করতে গত ৮ই জুন তারিখে হরিদেবপুর জজবাগান ক্লাব প্রাঙ্গণে এলাকার সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য একটি এ্যান্টিবডি টেস্ট ক্যাম্পের আয়োজন করা হয়।
