মুর্শিদাবাদ রেঞ্জের ডিআইজি মুকেশ কুমারকে সরিয়ে দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্তের কথা আগে জানিয়ে দিয়েছিল নির্বাচন কমিশন। নির্বাচন কমিশনের পক্ষ থেকে নবান্নের কাছে নাম চেয়ে পাঠানো হয়। তিনটি নাম প্রস্তাব আকারে পাঠানো হয়েছে নবান্নের তরফে। ওয়াকার রাজা, রনেন্দ্রনাথ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ও দেবস্মিতা দাস। এই তিনজনের মধ্যে কোন একজনকে বেছে নিতে চলেছে নির্বাচন কমিশন। সোমবার বিকেল পাঁচটার মধ্যে নাম পাঠানোর কথা বলা হয়েছিল কমিশনের পক্ষ থেকে। নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে নাম পাঠালো নবান্ন। উল্লেখ্য, লোকসভা ভোটের মুখে বাংলার আরও এক অফিসারকে সরিয়ে দিল নির্বাচন কমিশন। ডিআইজি মুর্শিদাবাদ রেঞ্জ মুকেশ কুমারকে সরিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। ২০১৯ সালে মুকেশ কুমার মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার এসপি ছিলেন। পরবর্তী সময়ে তাঁকে মুর্শিদাবাদ এবং নদীয়া রেঞ্জের ডিআইজি করা হয়। ঠিক কী কারণে আইপিএস মুকেশ কুমারকে নির্বাচন কমিশন সরিয়েছে তা স্পষ্ট নয়। কমিশনের নির্দেশনামায় শুধু উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, এই অফিসারকে সরিয়ে আপাতত পুলিশ হেডকোয়াটারের কোনও ‘নন-ইলেকশন’ পদ দিতে হবে।
