বিশেষজ্ঞরা বলছেন, গরম জল খাওয়া বা গরম জলে একটু লবণ মিশিয়ে গার্গল করার উপকারিতা অনেক। গার্গল করলে তৈরি হয় ‘অসমোসিস ইফেক্ট’, যেখানে এই লবণ গলা থেকে তরল টেনে আনে। সেই তরলের টানে বেরিয়ে আসে ‘মিউকাস’, অস্বস্তি সৃষ্টিকারী ‘অ্যালার্জেনস’, ব্যাক্টেরিয়া এবং ছত্রাক। ফলে গলা পরিষ্কার করে মুখে ও গলায় ফাঙ্গাস-জনিত সংক্রমণ হওয়া প্রতিরোধ করে। তবে বিশেষজ্ঞরা আরও বলছেন, গরম পানিতে করোনা ভাইরাসের সংক্রমণ আটকানো সম্ভব নয়। সাধারণত ৬০ থেকে ৭০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসে মৃত্যু হতে পারে এ ভাইরাসের। কিন্তু সেটা ল্যাবরেটরির নিয়ন্ত্রিত আবহেই সম্ভব।
দাঁত ও মাড়ি থেকে ক্ষতিকর ‘প্যাথোজেন’ বা রোগজনক শক্তি অপসারণ করে এবং তাদের বৃদ্ধি রোধ করে লবণ জল। এতে ‘জিনজিভাইটিস’ বা মাড়ি ফোলা রোগ হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা কমায়। নিয়মিত ব্যবহারে মাড়ির রক্তক্ষরণ কমে। গলা ব্যথা দুর করতে, প্রদাহ, সর্দি এবং সাইনাসের সংক্রমণ সারাতে অত্যন্ত উপকারী লবণ পানি দিয়ে গার্গল করা। এর মাধ্যমে মুখগহ্বরের অম্ল প্রশমিত হয় এবং সেখানকার অম্ল-ক্ষারের মাত্রার ভারসাম্য বজায় থাকে। অর্ধেক চামচে পরিমাণ লবণ নিয়ে তার চার ভাগের এক ভাগ পরিমাণ মিশিয়ে নিতে হবে এক গ্লাস কুসুম গরম জলে। কুলি বা গার্গল করার সময় মাথা পেছনের দিকে ঠেলে দিয়ে মুখে পানিটুকু গলার নিয়ে গার্গল ও কুলি করতে হবে ৩০ সেকেন্ড। একবারে পাঁচ থেকে সাতবার এভাবে কুলি করতে হবে।
সর্দি লাগলে বা গলায় অস্বস্তি দেখা দিলে দিনে দুইবার এই পদ্ধতি অনুসরণ করলে উপকার মিলবে। তবে লবণের পরিমাণ বেশি হলে মুখগহ্বর ও গলার ভেতরের ‘টিস্যু’ শুষ্ক হয়ে যাবে। খাওয়ার পর হালকা গরম জল খেলে হজমশক্তি বাড়তে পারে।
এছাড়াও টনসিল ফুলে গেলে বা শুকনো কাশি ও নাক বন্ধ হওয়ার সমস্যা থাকলে গরম জলের ভাপ ও গার্গল সুস্থ হতে সাহায্য করে।
