শীত আসলেই দক্ষিনবঙ্গে জেলাগুলিতে দেখতে পাওয়া খেজুড়ের গুড়। আর উত্তর দিনাজপুর জেলার রায়গঞ্জে দেখা যায় বেগুন। একসময় বিহারের বিঘোর থেকে এই বেগুন আসত। রায়গঞ্জ ব্লকের বাহিন গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েতের পাশের বিহারের বিঘোর গ্রাম। এই বিঘোরের উৎপাদিত বেগুন রায়গঞ্জে বেশ কদর আছে। বিঘোর সংলগ্ন গ্রাম ভিটিয়ার। সেখানকার কৃষকরা বেগুনের চারা এনে ভিটিয়ারে চাষ করতে শুরু করে। বিঘোরের একই ধরনের ফলন করছে ভিটিয়ার গ্রামের চাষীরা। এক একটি বেগুনের ওজন ৫০০ থেকে দেড় কেজি ওজনের হচ্ছে। যা দেখে আপনি আতকে উঠতে পারেন। বেগুনের আকার এবং একই ভিটিয়ার গ্রামের বেগুন।
শীত আসলেই রায়গঞ্জের বিঘোরের বেগুন এবং তুলাইপাঞ্জি চালের ভাত সকলের আকর্ষনীয়। বিঘোর বেগুন এখন রায়গঞ্জের বাজারে কম পাওয়া গেলে ভিটিয়ারের বেগুন বিঘোর হিসেবে বিকোচ্ছে। এই বেগুন শুধুমাত্র রায়গঞ্জে উৎপাদিত হয়। তাই এখনকার বেগুন শিলিগুড়ি কলকাতাতেও কিনে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে।
