বাজলো তোমার আলোর বেনু

কখনও তিনি শক্তির প্রতীক। কখনও বা জ্ঞানের। কখনও আবার তিনি দয়াময়ী মাতৃমূর্তি। তিনি দেবী দুর্গতিনাশিনী দুর্গা। যিনি বহুরূপে সম্মুখে বিরাজ করেন, তিনি তো একাধিক নামে পরিচিত হবেনই। তার আগমনে খুশির মেজাজ মর্তে। আপামর বাঙালি এই দিনটির অপেক্ষা করে থাকে সারা বছর জুড়ে। আজ সেই প্রতিক্ষার অবসান। আজ দ্বিতীয়াতেই সেই ছবি ধরা পরছে শহর জুড়ে। বৃষ্টির ভ্রুকুটি ভুলে মানুষ বেড়িয়ে পরেছে প্রতিমা দর্শন করতে । ভারতের অন্যত্র দুর্গাপূজা নবরাত্রি উৎসব রূপে উদযাপিত হয়।

বছরে দুইবার দুর্গোৎসবের প্রথা রয়েছে – আশ্বিন মাসের শুক্লপক্ষে শারদীয়া এবং চৈত্র মাসের শুক্লপক্ষে বাসন্তী দুর্গাপূজা। সম্ভবত খ্রিষ্টীয় দ্বাদশ-ত্রয়োদশ শতাব্দীতে বাংলায় দুর্গোৎসব প্রবর্তিত হয়। জনশ্রুতি আছে, রাজশাহীর তাহিরপুরের রাজা কংসনারায়ণ প্রথম মহাআড়ম্বরে শারদীয়া দুর্গাপূজার সূচনা করেছিলেন।দেবী দুর্গা শাক্ত ধর্মে সর্বোচ্চ আরাধ্য দেবী, বৈষ্ণব ধর্মে তাঁকে ভগবান বিষ্ণুর অনন্ত মায়া হিসাবে আখ্যা দেওয়া হয় এবং শৈবধর্মে দুর্গাকে শিবের অর্ধাংগিনী পার্বতী হিসাবে অর্চনা করা হয়। বৈদিক সাহিত্যে দুর্গার উল্লেখ পাওয়া যায়।দুর্গাপূজা হল শক্তির অধিষ্ঠাত্রী দুর্গাদেবীর উপাসনার উৎসব।
