শুক্রবার ভোরে ৪১জন আরোহী নিয়ে বাসটি দেশটির রাজধানী টোকিও থেকে মধ্যাঞ্চলীয় নাগানোর একটি অবকাশ যাপন কেন্দ্রের উদ্দেশ্যে যাচ্ছিল। পথিমধ্যে কারুইজাওয়া শহরের কাছে রাস্তা থেকে ছিটকে পড়ে বাসটি রাস্তার গ্রিল ভেঙে কয়েক মিটার পর্যন্ত নিচে গড়িয়ে যায়।
তবে ঠিক কী কারণে এই দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে তা তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়নি। কারণ রাস্তার উপর কোনো তুষার কিংবা বরফ ছিল না। দুর্ঘটনায় হতাহতের বিষয়টি তদন্ত করা হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছে জাপানের পরিবহন মন্ত্রণালয়।
জাপানে শীতকালে স্কিসহ অন্যান্য খেলাধুলা বেশ জনপ্রিয়।
